About
Barbora Jamantaite
Barbora Jamantaite is a multidisciplinary artist from Lithuania whose work spans documentary filmmaking, photography, printmaking, animation, writing, sound, and research. Working nomadically across geographies and mediums, she investigates the intersection of human experience, perception, and the unseen dimensions that shape daily life.
Her practice began in printmaking classes in art school, where she experimented with infusing static images with movement and expression - creating etchings and prints that suggested narrative, rhythm, and transformation. This experimentation led her to cinema, documentary, photography, and animation, forming a practice that bridges observation, imagination, and experimentation across mediums.
Central to her work is the pursuit of freedom as the foundation for presence, awareness, and creation. Through attentive observation, Barbora explores how thought, memory, and emotion shape individual and collective experience, navigating intimate, everyday moments and symbolic, poetic landscapes.
She continues her independent artistic research beyond institutional boundaries. Her art is an ongoing study of life and its transformations - a living archive of presence, guided by intuition, curiosity, and the unending pursuit of freedom.
Artistic Statement
I move through the world as an observer, carrying whatever tool the moment demands - a camera, a pen, an etching needle, a sound recorder or the body itself - allowing life to reveal itself in gestures, silences, and fleeting moments. My work dwells in the space between the everyday and the unseen, where the ordinary pulses with quiet mystery and the inner life unfolds like a dream.
I am drawn to the traces of something greater within humans - moments where presence, emotion, and memory converge to hint at a hidden divinity. It is in these glimpses, in the rhythm of daily life or the surreal contours of the subconscious, that I seek to bear witness. My practice does not explain or impose meaning; it listens, watches, and lets the world speak, tracing the subtle intersections between inner and outer realities.
Across disciplines - from printmaking to photography, from film to animation, from writing to sound - I construct a living archive of human experience. Each work is a meditation on freedom, attention, and presence, a cinematic reflection on life as it moves, transforms, and whispers. I do not seek to explain or impose meaning; I seek to bear witness, to translate presence, and to let both seen and unseen worlds speak through my work.
