Modus Vivendi
“Modus Vivendi” is a series of graphic works examining the question what does it mean to live well? The title comes from Latin, meaning “a way of living” or “a mode of life.” In this project, the artist approaches the topic through visual and philosophical research, exploring how different individuals construct meaning within their lives.
The series presents portraits of people with diverse life paths – from individuals who have experienced homelessness to artists. Rather than depicting success or failure, the works reflect on the many forms a life can take and the subjective nature of what we call “living well.”
The prints are created using mixed printmaking techniques, including drypoint etching, linocut, carborundum experiments, and charcoal drawing. Through this combination of methods, the series emphasizes the material and emotional texture of lived experience, suggesting that every life develops its own modus vivendi: a negotiated way of continuing under real circumstances.
